Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 labouring, weary, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 In which are high thrones. 13 Goblets set, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
