The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. 9 Then he supplicated to his Lord, (saying): 'I am overcome, help me' 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 And We opened up the springs of the earth; and the waters met for a decreed end. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 We made (the story of Noah) as evidence of the Truth. However, is there anyone who would take heed? 15 And how severe is the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded! 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Sweeping men away as though they were uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 22
