Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And the ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
