He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him you give attention. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
