And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden, 140 Then he joined the lots, and was of the condemned. 141 Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. 142 Now had he not been of those that glorify God, 143 He would certainly have tarried in its belly to the day when they are raised. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 We made a plant of gourd grow up for him. 146 We sent him as a messenger to a hundred thousand people or more, 147 and they believed, and We gave them enjoyment for awhile. 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 Did We create the angels females, to which they were witnesses? 150 Now surely it is of their own lie that they say: 151 That “Allah has offspring”; and indeed, surely, they are liars. 152 Does He prefer sons to daughters? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you form your judgement? 154 Then will you not be reminded? 155 Or have ye an authority manifest? 156 Bring your Book, if you speak truly! 157 They have said that there is a relationship between Him and the jinn. The jinn certainly know that they will all be brought to suffer torment. 158 Exaltations to Allah above what they describe, 159 except for God's sincere servants. 160 Therefore you and all what you worship. (The disbelievers and their deities.) 161 Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah, 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 Of us there is none but hath a station assigned. 164 "And we are truly those who stand in rows, 165 And verily we! we hallow. 166 And indeed the disbelievers used to say, – 167 'If only we had a reminder from the ancients, 168 We would have been the chosen creatures of God." 169 but they have rejected it, [the Quran] and they shall soon learn! 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 That undoubtedly, only they will be helped. 172 And surely, only Our army will be victorious. 173 So turn away from them for a while. 174 and see them [for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 175 Our torment seek they to hasten on! 176 Then, when it descends into their courtyard (i.e. near to them), evil will be the morning for those who had been warned! 177 And leave them for a time. 178 And watch; they will come to know soon. 179 Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe. 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe. 182
