The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
