The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif, Lam, Meem. 1 The Romans have been conquered 2 In the nearer land, and they, after their defeat will be victorious 3 Within a few (up to nine) years time; only for Allah is the command, before and after; and the believers will rejoice on that day. 4 with the help of God. He helps whom He pleases: He is the Mighty, and the Merciful. 5 The promise of Allah! Allah does not fail His promise, yet most people do not know. 6 They know only some appearance of the life of the world, and are heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not contemplate within themselves? Allah has not created the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and for a specified term. And indeed, many of the people, in [the matter of] the meeting with their Lord, are disbelievers. 8 Have they, then, never journeyed about the earth and beheld what happened in the end to those [deniers of the truth] who lived before their time? Greater were they in power than they are; and they left a stronger impact on the earth, and built it up even better than these [are doing]; and to them [too] came their apostles with all evidence of the truth: and so, [when they rejected the truth and thereupon perished,] it was not God who wronged them, but it was they who had wronged themselves. 9 And once again: evil is bound to be the end of those who do evil by giving the lie to God's messages and deriding them. 10
