The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virgins. 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
