The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 and defilement flee! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
