Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 By the clear Book, 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
