The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
