The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
