The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
