The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
