Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
