The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not made therein any deviance. 1 right, to warn of great violence from Him, and to give good tidings unto the believers, who do righteous deeds, that theirs shall be a goodly wage 2 Staying in it for ever; 3 And that it may warn those who say: God hath taken a son. 4 They do not have any knowledge of it – nor did their forefathers; profound is the word that comes out of their mouths; they only speak a lie. 5 Yet perchance, if they do not believe in this tiding, you will consume yourself with grief and follow after them. 6 Lo! We have placed all that is on the earth as an ornament thereof that We may try them: which of them is best in conduct. 7 We will surely reduce all that is on it to barren dust. 8 [AND SINCE the life of this world is but a test, dost thou [really] think that [the parable of] the Men of the Cave and of [their devotion to] the scriptures could be deemed more wondrous than any [other] of Our messages? 9 When the youth sought refuge in the cave they prayed "Lord, grant us mercy and help us to get out of this trouble in a righteous way". 10 We lulled them to sleep in that cave for a number of years 11 Afterwards. We raised them up again, that We might know which of the two parties would better calculate the while they had tarried. 12
