The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
