The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 Indeed We have created man from mixed semen; in order to test him – We therefore made him hearing, knowing. 2 We surely showed him the way that he may either be grateful or deny. 3 Indeed, for the unbelievers We have prepared chains, fetters and a Blazing (Fire). 4 The virtuous shall drink from a cup tempered with camphor water. 5 A spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allah will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance]. 6 They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. 7 those who, for the love of Him, feed the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful." 10 Therefore Allah will guard them from the evil of that day and cause them to meet with ease and happiness; 11 and will reward them for all their patience in adversity with a garden [of bliss] and with [garments of] silk. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 the shading branches of trees will come down low over them, and their clusters of fruit, will hang down where they are the easiest to reach. 14 And they will be waited upon with vessels of silver and goblets that will [seem to] be crystal 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver: they will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes). 16 They will drink cups containing (soft flowing) sparkling water 17 From a fountain therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be attended by youths who will not age -- when you see them you will think them to be like sprinkled pearls -- 19 And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. 20 In it they adorn clothes of fine green silk and gold embroidery; and they are given silver bracelets to wear; and their Lord gave them pure wine to drink. 21 'See, this is your recompense, your striving is thanked' 22
