Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 You and your fathers? 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 And hell will be revealed for the astray. 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 other than Allah? Do they help you or even help themselves' 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 no caring friend. 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
