The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
