The dwellers in the wood (of Midian) denied the messengers (of Allah), 176 Shu'ayb asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 177 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 178 so fear God, and obey me. 179 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 180 ۞ Fill up the measure and do not diminish the goods of people, 181 and [in all your dealings] weigh with a true balance, 182 do not defraud people of what is rightfully theirs; and do not spread corruption in the land. 183 And guard against (the punishment of) Him who created you and the former nations. 184 They said: thou art but of the bewitched; 185 You are but a man like ourselves, and indeed, we think you are among the liars. 186 So cause to fall upon us fragments of the sky, if you should be of the truthful." 187 He said: My Lord knows best what you do. 188 But they denied him, so there came on them the retribution of the day of gloom. Lo! it was the retribution of an awful day. 189 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 190 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 191
