The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
