The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
