S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Sad [These letters (Sad etc.) are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. By the Quran full of reminding. 1 Nay! those who disbelieve are in self-exaltation and opposition. 2 Many a generation We did destroy before them – thereupon they cried out whereas it is not the time to escape! 3 It seems strange to the pagans that a man from their own people should come to them as a Prophet. The unbelievers have said, "He is only a lying magician". 4 What! makes he the gods a single Allah? A strange thing is this, to be sure! 5 And the Council of them depart, saying 'Go! Be steadfast to your gods; this is a thing to be desired. 6 We have not heard of any such thing in the old religion. This is nothing but a fabrication. 7 Hath the reminder been unto him (alone) among us? Nay, but they are in doubt concerning My reminder; nay but they have not yet tasted My doom. 8 Or have they the treasures of the Mercy of your Lord, the All-Mighty, the Real Bestower? 9 Or have they the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all between? If so, let them mount up with the ropes and means (to reach that end)! 10 They will be one more army vanquished among the many routed hordes. 11 Cried lies before them the people of Noah, and Ad, and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 12 So also did the people of Thamud, Lot, and the dwellers of the Forest. 13 Not one (of them) but rejected the messengers, but My punishment came justly and inevitably (on them). 14
