The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 in an exposed parchment 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
