The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
