The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 on fine parchment; 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 and the uplifted roof 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 such as play at plunging, 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
