The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruit of what they select 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And spreading shade, 30 and flowing water 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
