The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and all those on earth. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 Calling: "[O Kafir (O disbeliever in Allah, His angels, His Book, His Messengers, Day of Resurrection and in Al-Qadar (Divine Preordainments), O Mushrik (O polytheist, disbeliever in the Oneness of Allah)] (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from Faith) [picking and swallowing them up from that great gathering of mankind (on the Day of Resurrection) just as a bird picks up a food-grain from the earth with its beak and swallows it up] [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 18, Page 289] 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 save those that pray 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 and (finally) those who do not miss their ritual - prayers at the prescribed times; 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35
