In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Verily, We have sent to you (O men) a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) to be a witness over you, as We did send a Messenger [Musa (Moses)] to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
