Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
