He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
