The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
