Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and ten nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Join My servants. 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
