He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
