Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
89 verses, revealed in Mecca after Consultation (Al-Shooraa) before Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 I call to witness the lucent Book, 2 Verily We! We have made it an Arabic Qur'an that haply ye may reflect. 3 It (the Quran) exists in the original Book with Us which is certainly Most Exalted, full of wisdom and (beyond linguistic structures). 4 Shall We utterly ignore you because ye are a wanton folk? 5 And how many a Prophet have We sent amongst the men of old. 6 And whenever any Prophet came to them, they only mocked at him. 7 We utterly destroyed them although they were greater in might than these. The examples of ancient peoples have gone before. 8 Yet, if you ask them who created the heavens and the earth, they will answer: 'The Almighty, the Knower created them' 9 He it is Who made this earth for you a cradle and made in it pathways for you that you may find the way to your destination; 10 He Who sent down water from the sky in a determined measure, and thereby We revived a dead land: likewise will you be raised up (from the earth) -- 11 He who created pairs of everything, and fashioned for you boats and beasts on which you ride, 12 In order that ye may sit firm and square on their backs, and when so seated, ye may celebrate the (kind) favour of your Lord, and say, "Glory to Him Who has subjected these to our (use), for we could never have accomplished this (by ourselves), 13 And lo! unto our Lord we surely are returning. 14 Yet they assign to some of His slaves a share with Him (by pretending that He has children, and considering them as equals or co-partners in worship with Him). Verily, man is indeed a manifest ingrate! 15
