The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount, 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 And the elevated canopy 5 and the sea swarming, 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
