He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 So you are after him! 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 fruits, and grass. 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
