The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 He looked (at others); 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
