He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him you attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
