The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 Who insist on being given full when they take from others, 2 but when they have to measure or weigh whatever they owe to others, give less than what is due! 3 Do not these think that they shall be raised again 4 Unto an Awful Day, 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 By no means! Verily the record of the ungodly is in Sijjin. 7 And what will make you know what the Sijjin is? 8 It is a comprehensively written Book (of records). 9 Woe, then, to those that give the lie, 10 those that give the lie to the Day of Recompense. 11 None denies it but the sinful transgressors. 12 When Our communications are recited to him, he says: Stories of those of yore. 13 Nay! rather, what they used to do has become like rust upon their hearts. 14 Yes indeed – they will be deprived of seeing their Lord on that day. 15 Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire. 16 Then, it will be said to them: "This is what you used to deny!" 17 By no means! Verily the record of the virtuous shall be in 'Illiyun. 18 And what will make you know what 'Illiyyun is? 19 The record is a sealed text. 20 Which is witnessed by the close ones. 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Bliss; 22 (reclining) upon couches they will gaze, 23 Thou wilt recognise in their faces the beaming brightness of Bliss. 24 They will be given pure wine to drink, which is kept preserved, sealed. 25 Its seal is upon musk; and for this should those who crave be eager. 26 And mixed with water of Tasnim, 27 a source [of bliss] whereof those who are drawn close unto God shall drink. 28 Verily! (During the worldly life) those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 when they passed by them they winked, 30 and whenever they return to people of their own kind, they return full of jests; 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 But they (disbelievers, sinners) had not been sent as watchers over them (the believers). 33 so today those who believe shall [be able to] laugh at those who denied the truth 34 as they sit on couches, gazing around. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
