Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
