The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
True are the words of God the Almighty.
