He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And hath fear, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 and angelic scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
