The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And clustered plantains, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and flowing water 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
