Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
