Some of the Pharaoh's nobles considered him to be no more than a skillful magician 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 111 to bring together at the Pharaohs court all the skillful magicians. 112 And the magicians came unto Fir'awn. They said: surely there is for us a reward if we are the overcomers. 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 They said, 'Moses, wilt thou cast, or shall we be the casters?' 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
