Nay, and by the moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 A warning to mortals, 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 From the guilty. 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 as if they were startled asses 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
