The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
