(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
